My main memory of Bitlis is of driving down the main street with an army jeep in front of me. A soldier was aiming an enormous gun at me for the entire trip through the town. This picture is of a nice mountain stream a little towards Van where I stopped to wash the smell of sweat off.

Ahlat, on the shore of Lake Van, was more pleasant. It has a lovely Selçuk cemetery.
