Aksaray has the lovely Ihlara Valley.

In my first year in Turkey, I was at a school where we had a week day off. Mine was Thursday and a Maths teacher friend had Friday. The school was quite OK with us teaching a day for each other. This meant that I sometimes got a four-day weekend. I went to Cappadocia in 1990. I didn’t have any money at that stage so I had to hitch everywhere. To get to Ihlara, my ride from Derinkuyu to Güzelyurt was on a well-drilling rig.

I hitched with a German tourist bus on the way back. They stopped at this Kervanserai.
