There are sometimes some interesting signs and slogans related to clothing in Turkey. This afternoon, my 3-year-old daughter was playing in the park with a little girl of about the same age with “I LOVE BALLING” written on her ‘Hello Kitty’ T-shirt.

Offal restaurants are in vogue in 2013 Istanbul. It’s generally rather nice pieces of lamb’s liver grilled on skewers.
My favourite is Canım Ciğerim, which means my darling offal. We love our liver here. Like Portnoy.

The dish consists of chunks of sole with peppers and other vegetables, all impaled on a şiş (as in shish kebab) skewer.
Dil means the fish called sole. It also means tongue, language or spit (as in saliva).
Şiş means the skewer. It also means swell, protuberance, bulge, wart or spit (as in rotisserie. This caused menu chaos in a restaurant in Antalya in the 1990s where they offered Sheep Spit, Hen Spit and Special Spit from Our Chef.)
